How to Choose a Plumber in Sioux Falls, SD

Five checks before you hire any plumber in Sioux Falls: the South Dakota license, the City contractor license, the insurance certificate, how the price is built, and the written scope. Below the checks: eight local plumbing companies, described only from their own websites as of November 6, 2026, listed alphabetically with no ratings or paid placement.

Published November 6, 2026 · Figures and rules checked against the sources listed at the end of this page.

The five checks

  1. State license. South Dakota requires a State Plumbing Commission license for plumbing work on a home connected to public water or sewer (SDCL 36-25-17). The Commission's licensee list is a PDF sorted by city; the license check page walks through it.
  2. City license. Inside the city limits, the City of Sioux Falls requires its own plumber contractor license, backed by a compliance bond. Building Services verifies at 605-367-8672.
  3. Insurance. Neither license proves general liability coverage. Ask for the certificate and call the agent on it.
  4. How the price is built. Hourly plus trip fee, or flat rate from a price book? Is the diagnostic fee credited if you approve the repair? What is the after-hours rate? The cost page has the national ranges to judge the answer against.
  5. Scope in writing. What is being replaced, with what, whether the permit and inspection are included, and whether tonight's fix is temporary.

How this list works

Sioux Falls Plumbing Pros is a referral service, not a plumbing company, and this list is not a ranking. The companies are here because they appear for plumbing searches in Sioux Falls and publish their own websites. We do not show ratings, review counts, phone numbers or links, because we have not checked the ratings and the numbers change; the state and City license lists are the place to confirm any of them before you call.

Red flags

  • A name on the van that does not match any name on the license lists, and no explanation.
  • A price that cannot be written down before the work starts, or a "diagnostic" that becomes a repair without a second yes.
  • Pressure to replace a water heater or sewer line tonight, with no camera video or photo to show why.
  • Asking you, the homeowner, to pull the permit for work they are doing. In Sioux Falls, paid plumbing work runs through a City-licensed contractor, and the contractor pulls the permit.

Sources and dates

Every figure and rule above names where it came from and the date it was read. If a source disagrees with a quote you receive, the quote wins: it reflects your house, your pipes and this week's demand. Prices are rechecked at least every six months.

About choosing and about this list

How do I choose a plumber in Sioux Falls?

Check the South Dakota State Plumbing Commission list and the City of Sioux Falls licensed-contractor list, ask for the certificate of insurance, ask whether the price is hourly or flat and whether the diagnostic fee is credited, get the scope in writing, and for anything beyond a service call get a second quote from the same photos.

How did you choose these companies?

They are Sioux Falls-area plumbing companies that show up for plumbing searches here and run their own websites, listed alphabetically. Each description comes only from what the company says on its own site, read November 6, 2026. We don't rate or rank them, inclusion isn't paid, and we have not verified their claims.

Can you send my request to one of these companies?

When you request a match, we pass it to an independent local plumber that covers your area. That may or may not be a company on this list; either way, check its license before work starts.

Is the cheapest quote the right one?

Not by itself. As of November 6, 2026, national guides put plumbers at $45–$150 per hour with a $50–$200 service call, so quotes vary for good reasons: who pulls the permit, what parts are specified, whether the fix is temporary. Compare scope line by line, not just the total.
